I just figured this out. This is nothing new. Probably i’m the last one to figure it out. Yes, i know i’m slow :).
I extended my Windows XP running on my laptop onto an external monitor! I tried it a few days back but thought that i couldn’t do it as my laptop only has VGA display output. I plugged the VGA cable of my Philips monitor into the VGA output on my lappy and all i was able to do is to toggle the display.
I just realize what i was missing. I need to check the checkbox in the display settings dialog. First, i need to right-click on desktop and select Properties. Then go to settings tab and check the “Extend my Windows Desktop onto this monitor” checkbox.
My desktop appeared on my monitor and i adjust the screen resolution and Color quality settings.
Done! I’ve doubled my desktop! The only thing peculiar is my desktop arrangement. Display no. 2, my monitor displaying the extended desktop, is supposed to be on the right but i have it on then left. So I have to drag the cursor towards the right edge of my main screen to get to my extended desktop.
This is good for work. I will try this at work :). Extended desktop means i can have a few things on the foreground which can help me to multitask. It is good for studies too. I type out the code onto the IDE on the main desktop as listed in the step-by-step instruction displayed on the extended desktop.
