I submitted this application last night and this morning i got a call regarding my application! I was at my office cubicle preparing my presentation slides (on Windows Installer) when a call came in. I thought it was the handphone shop calling to inform me that my Android phone has arrived. I’m still waiting for it after 2 weeks. Have dropped by the shop and the guy say the shipment is delayed.
Anyway, back to the call. She introduce herself but the reception was bad. I heard her say “I receive you application and is it convenient to talk”. I answered “Yes” but at that moment i had no idea who is it from. All i know is that it’s about my job application. She asked my reason for leaving. I answered but then i realize it is not really appropriate to talk about it there. Furthermore, the reception was quite bad. So I asked her to hold on so that i can go the window nearby where i can get a better reception. That’s when the “phone interview started”. She asked me to tell me about myself and my experience. She also asked about my knowledge in C++ and Java. Told her the truth my i have basic knowledge. Only school project and no work experience. She the asked me to elaborate further on my development work. I explained my work on installscript, components, master installer and stuff.
I believe after that she was referring to my resume as she was reading the details about my expected salary, 1 month notice. Maybe she notice i am Linux certified and she asked me about by experience in that area and also shell scripting. The same answer. I got training but no experience. I guess due to this shortcomings she told me that she will KIV my resume since her company’s client is looking for someone with Linux server and shell scripting experience. Before ending the call, I told her i did not catch her introduction and asked her where she is calling from again. That is when i realize i just made the application yesterday :).
I am not frustrated or saddened. It is a challenging job market out there. Skills and experience give you the edge. I just got to be patient. It actually surprise me that my resume an attention that fast!
