Chicken curry recipe

Posted on July 22, 2012 by Azare Puasa

This is for an acquaintance of mine. She had planned a curry weekend.  Fish curry for Saturday and chicken on Sunday. The fish curry she prepared yesterday using a ready made paste was salty even though she added lots more water than the instruction on the packaging suggested. Coincidentally, i had borrowed a recipe book from […]

Installing skype on Fedora 16 64 bit

Posted on July 20, 2012 by Azare Puasa

This is the instruction i used to install skype Fedora 16. It works for me. I read the instructions here: http://blog.linux4us.org/2011/11/13/installing-skype-on-fedora-16-64bit/ It works for me but I encountered just one issue. My yum install was not successful. Something to do with the qt package. So the workaround to this is to yum install all except […]

Posted on August 7, 2011 by Azare Puasa

The instructions on setting up drupal on fedora is available on the web. I followed this one here: http://drupal.org/node/327731 I also referenced this one: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_install_Drupal The problem I had was during the installation through the browser. After I selected to install in English language, the installation reported a file permission related error. “The directory *sites/default/files* […]

Connecting wlan via CLI

Posted on July 24, 2011 by Azare Puasa

Finally figured it out. I have been trying to get my GUI less fedora system connected to my wlan since yesterday afternoon. I tried using iwconfig but i don’t seem to understand how to use it, especially on how to correctly specify the passphrase with the “key” option. I googled and read about cnetworkmanager. It […]

I have a big problem editing my layout file. I have difficulty editing values of those properties that will have ellipses in the value column when i select them.  The issue is when I click on the ellipses, the dialog that I’m supposed to see did not appear! This dialog really helps me experiment with […]

Posted on June 18, 2011 by Azare Puasa

I’m working on an app that uses the camera function and this problem has been bugging me for quite a while now. The camera preview of my Galaxy Spica appears dark! I don’t know why but discovered that the problem will go away after snapping a photo, view it and then go back to preview […]

From Goddard to Laughlin

Posted on June 6, 2011 by Azare Puasa

This is an anecdote of my journey upgrading Fedora v13(Goddard) to v14(Laughlin). It is not the first time i am doing upgrading. I first installed Fedora 10 on this my system. No difference this time. I am prepared for issues. The main problem i had during prior upgrades was the Video driver issue. I have […]

[How to] – Removing old kernels in Ubuntu

Posted on June 2, 2011 by Azare Puasa

I notice when i do system update which includes new kernel version, the new version gets installed but the old versions are not remove automatically. My grub list is getting longer by the update!! I have 2.6.32-38 to 2.6.32-45 now. The common practice I’m taught is to just leave 2 versions. The latest and greatest and […]

I’m using Gnome Commander in Ubuntu

Posted on May 29, 2011 by Azare Puasa

I’m a MS Windows user when i’m in office. For all file management tasks, I rely on Total Commander. It is a great file manager. Copying, deleting, moving file is so much easier between the 2 panes and with additional plugins, I can add more functionality like viewing contents of zip or iso file as well. […]

Posted on May 28, 2011 by Azare Puasa

A reminder for myself. Q: How do i view the contents of a .gz file? A: $ tar -ztvf <filename>.gz A command to see the structure of the gunzip file before i uncompress it. Leave out the -z to list .tar file and use -j for .bz2 file.
